The water-in-salt strategy successfully expands the electrochemical window of aqueous electrolyte from 1.23 to ∼3.0 V, which can lead a breakthrough in energy output battery system while maintaining advantage high safety. expanded electrolytes be ascribed decreased water activity and solid interphase formed on anode. is not fully understood, basic composition, structure, formation mechanism are still cloaked mystery. This perspective summarizes published research with emphasis most possible composition layer system. Further understanding as well rounded assessment practical operating conditions encouraged. full interface will guide design help build novel batteries safety density.
